[Quick Shot] Kraken Black Roast Coffee Rum

So I like to try new things when it comes to alcohol. A new flavor, a new brand, a new style of beer/rum/whiskey, I want to try it. This mindset has allowed me to experience a lot of good drinks. It’s also lead me astray more than once. This is one of those times.

I like Kraken brand rum. It’s dark, sweet, and complex. Kraken’s good over ice. I’m sure it’s fun in cocktails, but I’ve yet to really mix any drinks with it. I also like coffee. Coffee flavored booze is starting to trend so when I saw this on the shelf I decided to give it a try.

Big, big mistake. It’s very sweet and has a nice coffee flavor, but I don’t like it. I think it might be too sweet, but that’s never stopped me before, so I’m at a loss. The flavor is just a bit off, but that’s not the worst part. The worst part is the color.

The color is black. I mean black. ‘Black’ coffee is black because it’s a deep brown. Kraken Coffee Roast? It’s black because it’s completely black. You add milk and it turns gray. It’s weird. It’s like they took the ‘kraken’ theme too far and made a bottle of squid ink. I’m not one to obsess over a food’s appearance, but this is straight up unappetizing.

4/10, would not recommend. Get Kahlua instead.
