Happy 4th of July to you & yours, readers.
As I’m writing this, I’m reminded of why we celebrate this day each year. At one point in our nation’s history, or pre-history maybe, a group of men decided that a government that did not truly care about them had forfeit all right to rule over them. We can sit here and joke about how the Founding Fathers started “stacking bodies” over a 3% tax, but what it really came down to was the fact that English Parliament was imposing taxes without any colonial input. The cry was “No Taxation Without Representation!” Nothing was said about freedom from taxes, but that they just wanted to be included in the conversation. Even when they sent a delegation to London to plead the Colonists’ case, they were completely disrespected.
It was not taxes that sparked the dissent. It was disrespect.
Have a good Independence Day. Eat well, enjoy friends & family, maybe have a nice cold beverage or twelve, and make a lot of noise or go watch a fireworks display. Above all, think about what the 4th is all about.
Demand respect, and consider that The Fathers considered warships to be covered by the Second Amendment. -S_S
