I don’t have much of a post for today. My personal life took a surprising turn this week, so the time I would normally spend on writing has been dedicated to getting that worked out.
I do want you to keep in mind what this Holiday is celebrating, exactly: Treason. The founding fathers wrote and signed a document that stated their intent to leave England and take vast swath of her territory with them. They felt that they had been so betrayed by the crown that not only were they justified in these actions, but they felt forced to do something!
The betrayal was, to oversimplify things, a 3% tax on tea, sugar, and paper. What percentage did you pay this past April again?
So the next time you see someone talking about raising taxes for ‘the common good’ or ‘for the children’, just remember what July 4th truly stands for. It’s not for taking a day off of work, or being with family, or even celebrating the troops. It’s about taking such a hardline stance on personal freedom that you are willing to risk absolutely everything to maintain it. They were even willing to be made enemies of the state to do it. Would you be willing to do the same?
Oh, and when someone says “The Second Amendment was written about muskets” just keep this image in mind.

I’ll see you on Friday. -S_S
